Features of compliance with diets with peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum
Patient must provide bed rest. In addition, physical rest saves energy costs of the body, and conditions are created to reduce the caloric content of the diet. This, in the long run, leads to a functional discharge of the digestive organs. Compliance with bed rest also promotes body heating, which causes increased blood flow to internal organs, improving recovery and healing of the stomach and duodenal mucosa.
Diets № 1, № 1 а and № 1 б are high-calorie, each of them in full provides energy expenses of the patient in the corresponding period of the disease. So, diet number 1a has a calorific value of 2000 calories, but it also covers the energy costs of the body in full, with the obligatory condition of adherence to bed rest.
The nature of nutrition, in addition, is also determined by the phase of the disease. When peptic ulcer is exacerbated, diet No. 1a is prescribed for 7-10 days, which sufficiently provides the maximum possible unloading of the secretory and motor function of the stomach. After this period, during the second and third weeks, the patient is assigned a diet No. 1b, which has the same principles as diet No. 1a, with the exception of a less pronounced restriction of chemical and mechanical stimuli of the stomach. Starting with the fourth week, the patient is assigned a diet number 1, which is even more stressful for the stomach than diet No. 1b.
Diet No. 1 should be followed for 2-3 months at the same time as a gradual transition to general rational nutrition. During periods of peptic ulcer disease, which usually occur twice a year, in the spring and autumn, it is necessary to prescribe courses of diets No. 1b or No. 1 as prevention for 2-4 weeks. And compliance with this condition is necessary even in the absence of signs of exacerbation of the disease.
When carrying out diet therapy, it is necessary to take into account some of the patient's existing characteristics, as well as concomitant diseases. For example, violations of the evacuation function of the stomach cause the need to include in the diet of high-calorie and, at the same time, low-volume dishes using milk and dairy products.
