In addition to the main active ingredient - olopatadine - the preparation contains a preservative benzalkonium chloride, phosphate dodecahydrate disodium, sodium chloride, distilled water, a solution of hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide.
Pharmacological action
Olopatanol hydrochloride is a potent selective antihistaminic agent used in ophthalmology. This drug stops the release of histamine and the release of cytokines, which cause inflammation of the eye mucosa. By reducing the permeability of the conjunctival vessels, Opatanol reduces the likelihood of allergens contacting the mucosa.
Local application of Opatanol in ophthalmology allows to eliminate the symptoms of seasonal allergic keratoconjunctivitis - itching, burning, swelling, reddening of the mucosa. The selective action of the drug extends exclusively to the histamine H1 receptors, with no effect on serotonin, dopamine and cholinergic receptors. The drug does not change the diameter of the pupil.
The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood with local application is observed after two hours, the systemic effect of Opatanol is insignificant, the half-life is 3-4 hours, the metabolites are mainly excreted by the kidneys.
When using the drug in patients with severe renal dysfunction, there is an increased content of olopatadine in the blood plasma, but no dosage adjustment is required for such patients.
Opatanol can be used for a long time, including for the prevention of eye damage in people with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. For the prevention of the use of the drug is recommended to begin a few weeks before the alleged contact with the allergen.
In the case of the administration of droplet data, the need to use corticosteroids is reduced to eliminate severe allergic eye damage.
The drug significantly reduces the appearance of eye lesions, eliminates edema and congestion hyperemia, burning, itching and lacrimation.
Indications for use
The drug is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of allergic eye damage. Opatanol can be prescribed to treat such pathologies as spring keratoconjunctivitis, seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, hay fever.

1. Recently I had an exacerbation of allergies. Eyes as if cut with a blade, could not look at all. The doctor said that from the inside his eyelids were already friable and advised to treat his eyes with drops of Opatanol.
On the first day, 4 times, the eyes dripped with this drug and by the evening they were gone. The only negative - a fairly high cost, although at such times, any money is ready to pay, if only it would become easier.
2. For about five years now I have been suffering from allergic conjunctivitis. I've tried a lot of drugs for this time, but none of them helped. The last time the doctor advised me was Opatanol.
When I went to the pharmacy, I was a little embarrassed by the price - a tiny bottle costs 400 rubles. But I decided to buy it, than I was happy afterwards.
When I got home, I immediately dripped my eyes and literally in about 10 minutes the feeling of sand in my eyes disappeared. After that, my eyes all day felt comfortable. By digging this bottle, I forgot about conjunctivitis in general.
The only drawback of Opatanol - its open storage can be no more than one month.

3. I recently woke up and could not fully open my eyes. With difficulty having opened them, went to the mirror and was horrified - a pitiful resemblance to the eyes and huge bags under them. Immediately a panic occurred. Running ran to the ophthalmologist, who said that this is an allergy. The doctor prescribed me the treatment with drops of Opatanol.
Of course, the drug is not the cheapest, but health is more expensive. In short, I bought these drops and dripped into my eyes right in the car. And - about a miracle, the swelling was gone in five minutes! And in order for this not to happen again, I had to take a course of treatment - to drip eyes in the morning and in the evening.
Now Opatanol is one of the components of my first aid kit. Of course, there are disadvantages - after the discovery the drug is only a month old, but it is not so important, as it removes inflammation very quickly and painlessly.
