Drops Ochumetil against inflammation and eye irritation

Ochumetil is a combined anti-inflammatory drug intended for topical use in ophthalmology.

The drug has anti-allergic and antiseptic properties, removes the mucous eye swelling, eliminates symptoms of eye irritation.

Pharmacological action

This combined preparation is an aqueous solution of zinc sulfate with diphenhydramine hydrochloride and naphazoline hydrochloride, which is applied topically in ophthalmology.

Zinc sulphate has antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-edematous effects. Diphenhydramine hydrochloride removes allergy manifestations, reduces swelling.

Naphazoline hydrochloride is ato the group of sympathomimetics, has a vasoconstrictive effect, copes with swelling and hyperemia of the mucous eyes.

The combination of these components causes such effects to be noted as an anti-inflammatory action, a reduction in allergic manifestations, symptoms of irritation and eye discomfort.

Okumilit suctioned into the systemic bloodstream after the installation.

Indications for use

Indications for use of Ocumetil are:

• discomfort and symptoms of eye irritation( itching, burning, lacrimation);
• symptoms of blepharoconjunctivitis and conjunctivitis;
• angular conjunctivitis( chronic inflammation of the corners of the eye and eyelid edges);
• chronic nonspecific blepharoconjunctivitis and conjunctivitis.

Contraindications

Since Okumel is subjected to systemic resorption, there are a large number of contraindications for its use.

Contraindications include:

• hypersensitivity to at least one of the components of the drug;
• diseases of the cardiovascular system, including arterial hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and severe atherosclerosis;
• epilepsy;
• bronchial asthma;
• dry eye syndrome;
• pregnancy and breastfeeding;
• angle-closure glaucoma;
• is less than two years old;
• diabetes;
• pheochromocytoma;
• hyperplasia of the prostate;
• stenosing stomach ulcer;
• increased thyroid function;
• stenosis of the bladder.

Instructions for use and dosage

If the doctor does not recommend another treatment regimen, Okumil should be taken topically, by digesting two to three times a day, one drop into the affected eye. If there is no effect for three days from the treatment, use of the drug should be canceled and consulted by the doctor in charge.

Side effects

In some cases, immediately after instillation of the drug in the eye, reddening of the conjunctiva occurs, blurred vision, dilated pupil, light burning. These symptoms go away after some time.

Patients with no lens( aphakia) may experience maculopathy or central scotoma.

These symptoms are reversible, but are an indication for the abolition of Ocumethyl.

As a result of resorption of the drug, symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, increased pressure, dry eye mucosa, ataxia, headache, palpitations may occur.

Interaction with drugs

Due to the fact that there is a possibility of a mutual decrease in the effects of diphenhydramine and drugs that stimulate the central nervous system, the use of okumethyl is not recommended for patients who use drugs of this group.

The drug is not recommended to be used concomitantly with the use of MAO inhibitors and for ten days after stopping the use of the latter. Due to the joint use of MAO inhibitors and beta adrenoblockers with adrenomimetics, there is an increased effect on the intake of the latter.

Since naphazoline inhibits the absorption of agents that have a local anesthetic effect, simultaneous use of ocumetil with local anesthetics that are used in ophthalmology is not recommended.

It should also be taken into account that zinc sulfate is pharmaceutically incompatible with ichthyol, quinine, lead and silver salts, protargol, citral, and alkaline-reacting drugs.

Special instructions

During treatment with this medication, care should be taken with regard to the management of vehicles, since a slight decrease in visual acuity is possible during 15 minutes after the application of the drug.

This drug, like any eye drops, should be stored in a tightly closed bottle in a dark place. In addition, it is necessary to avoid contacting the tip of the vial with surrounding objects, which will prevent contamination of the solution.

After the vial was opened, it can be used for one month.

Okumil is dispensed without a doctor's prescription.

1. Often in the morning I have red eyes - then I'll sit at the computer till late, then I just will not get enough sleep. Earlier I used eye drops Vizin, after which my eyes immediately looked normal. But recently I decided to change the drops to avoid addiction. In the pharmacy I was advised to try Okumetil.

With its task, the drops manage well - the puffiness decreases, the eyes become clear. The only drawback - immediately after instillation I experience a slight discomfort - the drug causes a slight burning sensation, but it disappears in just a few seconds.

The result - drops are not bad, but more like Vizin. I will alternate.

2. Droplet droplets perfectly cope with eye redness, help with conjunctivitis. It was a bit surprising that the drops of blue color, which looks weird at instillation, but after a few moments they become colorless, and the protein of the eye acquires a normal appearance, the irritation and dryness are removed.

The only drawback is that this drug can not be used by anyone who wears contact lenses - in this case you have to buy special drops. But at the same time, for normal use with the purpose of removing redness and swelling, they fit perfectly.
