Inflammations acute, chronic:

- sympathetic ophthalmia, inflammation of the retina and choroid, choroiditis( inflammation in the posterior segment of the eye);
- swelling and inflammation of the eye, including treatment and prevention of complications after surgery.
Allergic complications:
- inflammation caused by allergies: conjunctivitis or keratoconjunctivitis.
How to use:
In acute cases, 1-2 drops are administered under the eyelid once hourly or with an interval of two hours.
With decreasing inflammation, 1-2 drops drop 3-5 times per day. The course lasts 14-20 days, but no more.
The drug is administered under the supervision of a physician.
Contact lenses are removed before the procedure. Re-installation is allowed no less than a quarter of an hour after instillation. It is better to use glasses.
There is an opinion of specialists about the adverse effect of contact lenses on the eyes - they contribute to inflammatory processes.
Contact lenses, however good they were, by definition, are a foreign body, in such a sensitive organ as the eyes.
Dosage form and ingredients:
Oftan Dexamethasone is produced as a transparent sterile liquid, in polyethylene pipettes( 5 ml) and is dispensed in cardboard boxes in one unit.
1 ml contains:
- dexamethasone sodium phosphate: 1.32 mg( 1 mg based on the active principle);
- benzalkonium chloride;
- H3BO3;
- Na2B4O7;
- Trilon B;
- water for injection up to 1 ml.
Simultaneous reception with other medicines:
- Dexamethasone promotes isolation of the CYP3A4 isoenzyme, which reduces the action of erythromycin and quinidine( Ca channel blockers).In a form such as oculus guttis, with the usual dosage it manifests itself in a weak form.
- Together with iodoksuridinom it is possible to corrupt the epithelium of the cornea( with long treatment).
- Along with azathioprine or bucarban, cataract development is possible.
- Anticholinergics may cause glaucoma.
- Dexamethasone reduces the effect of insulin and hypoglycemic drugs taken internally.
- With hormonal contraceptives( androgens, estrogens, anabolics), acne can appear.
- Diuretics cause a risk of K + loss beyond normal, and NSAIDs, including even aspirin, can cause erosion in the digestive tract.
- The effect of anticoagulants is weakened.
- Complications, because of the decrease in potassium, the reception of glycosides from the heart.
- Aminoglutethimide and carbamazepine suppress the effect of dexamethasone. Ephedrine, rifampicin, phenytoin and barbiturates help to rapidly dexamethasone.
- Itraconazole enhances the effectiveness of dexamethasone, methotrexate in conjunction with dexamethasone is heavily tolerated by the liver.
Side effects
Contraindications:
- Inflammation of the cornea at the same time as herpes, and any viral complication of the cornea, for example, with chicken pox.
- Ophthalmic tuberculosis, mycobacteriosis and eye fungus.
- Acute suppuration in the eye, corneal epithelium, recent removal of foreign matter from the eye.
- Epitheliopathy of the cornea.
- Large intraocular pressure, glaucoma.
- Age before majority.(At the moment, security has not been investigated).
- Abnormally high sensitivity to drops, irritation and pain.
Pregnancy:
Results of clinical trials of Oftan Dexamethasone for pregnant and lactating women are currently not available. Therefore, the drug for them is not recommended for use.
