Forfenan is a French material designed for antiseptic treatment, obturation and sealing of infected or hardly penetrated root canals.
It is used for sealing channels in both temporary and permanent teeth. It is not recommended to use on the front teeth, since the crown of the depulled tooth can change color.
The drug is used for:
- pulpitis of infant teeth with the method of devital amputation with further mummification of the root pulp;
- filling of channels of permanent teeth.

Composition and Form Release
Produced as a kit consisting of:
- treatment solution bottle( 10 milliliters);
- container with powder( 20 grams) with a special spoon-dispenser;
- bottle of hardening solution( 10 milliliters);
- special tool for mixing.
The treatment solution is made from formalin and a filler. The powder consists of sulfate, dexamethasone and a filler.
The solution for solidification is made from hydrochloric acid, resorcinol and filler.
Material properties
If you mix the powder and both solutions that are included in the kit, it becomes possible to harden the radiopaque paste within a day. The basis of this material is antiseptic paste and resin.
During the polymerization, the material heats up and releases some formaldehyde gas, which penetrates into the dentinal tubules. Gaseous formaldehyde converts the albumin present in the antiseptic mixture.
As a result, Forfenan provides the opportunity to implement three actions at once in one procedure:
- accelerated antiseptic treatment of dentinal canals;
- introduction of antiseptic material for long-term exposure;
- strong root canal filling.
This sealing also has other characteristics: the material fills the channel closely, it is radiopaque, does not allow shrinkage, there is a risk of staining the crown of the tooth.
In liquid form, Forphenane is produced as two separate solutions and this makes it possible to vary the degree of exposure and its duration in accordance with the amount of each of the solutions used. If the amount of the treatment solution is increased, the process of separation of the gaseous antiseptic will be more intense. This promotes deeper sterilization.
This product, like phenolic, should not be used to fill the front teeth because of the color effect. Neutralize such a defect will be quite problematic( masking with lumineers or veneers).In general, Forfenan is considered a useful supplement for all types of conventional canal filling.
Instructions for use
Stages of the healing process:
- One of the traditional ways to open the tooth from the inside, carefully remove the pulp residues. Carry out medical and mechanical treatment of the tubules.
- Dry thoroughly.
- In the process of preparing the material for sealing on a special mixing tool, mix one spoon-dispenser with a drop of each solution. When you do not need such a strong mixture, for example, if you are supposed to repeat the passage of the tubules, then you need to use one measuring spoon of powder with two drops of medicinal liquid and one drop of the solution for solidification.
- Seal the canal using the material prepared in this way. It is introduced in portions by a canal filling or by a root needle.
Special instructions
Precautions should be observed when handling the treatment solution, since it contains a strong formaldehyde in its composition.
This substance is very toxic and adversely affects the body by inhalation, ingestion, contact with exposed skin, contact with mucous membranes, etc. Able to provoke a burn. Therefore, it is very important to isolate the tooth from surrounding tissues. For this, dentists use traditional means such as cofferdam and rubberd.
Always wear gloves before handling the material. If they get on the skin, eyes or mucous membranes, they should be washed with a considerable amount of water. To avoid negative health consequences, it is recommended to resort to medical care.
It is also necessary to consider the probability of the patient having allergic reactions to the components. It is important to identify this before the procedure.
Specialists of the post-Soviet states are actively arguing about the advisability of using formaldehyde funds in our days. However, it should be mentioned that the composition of the French drug Forfenan with an absolute guarantee meets strict requirements operating within the European Union. The material is recognized as safe and certified.
Purchase and storage, analogs
The entire kit must be stored in a dry and UV-protected place. The permissible temperature is from +5 degrees to +25 degrees Celsius. Always store in a tightly closed container. Shelf life - 24 months.
The price of the drug varies from 4 to 5 thousand rubles, as well as for the purchase of Forfenan analogues:
- Vientent epoxy aminopolymer is a two-component material( powder and liquid) containing epoxy resin. Produced in Russia.
- Foredent is a paste made on the basis of formaldehyde resin and has a lot of advantages in work. Produced in the Czech Republic.
- Resoplast is a two-component material( hardener and mortar).Produced in France.
