A pulp extractor is a tool that is used in endodontic treatment.
It is a long needle made of stainless or carbon steel with denticles.
They have their own characteristics:
- the size of the teeth is equal to half the diameter of the tool;
- the sharp part is directed to the tool handle;
- the direction of the teeth is oblique, all along their length about 40 pieces;
- there is an easy mobility when the endodontic needle moves.
Handle can be made of aluminum wire, plastic or the rod itself. On it there are incisions for more convenient deduction by the doctor.
Due to the high fragility, the use of pulp extractors is possible only in well-traveled channels without curvature, when no jamming of the tool occurs.
Why is it needed?
Pulp extractors are used in the following cases:
- extraction of tooth pulp from root canals;
- removal of its residues during decay;
- revision of the channels to check the presence of pulp residues, unless a diagnostic X-ray was taken.
Method of application of
After anesthesia and opening of the cavity of the tooth with the help of the prototypes, the approximate length of the root canal is determined. Then the is injected with the pulp extractor. Take it with your thumb and forefinger. It is important not to exert any pressure, as the tool breaks easily and remains in the channel. Especially small fragments usually can not be extracted. As a result, the quality of endodontic treatment suffers.
After introduction into the cavity the pulp extractor is scrolled by 2-3 turns. Movements should be corkscrew. At this time the denticles are pressed against the rod. With the removal of a sharp movement, they open and capture all the soft tissues. All manipulations are repeated until the root canal has completely cleared from the pulp.
When working with narrow channels, it is recommended to insert the tool approximately 2/3 of the entire length of the channel. Optimal will not bring the pulp extractor to the apical opening about 3-4 mm.
The most popular manufacturers of
Most often in the domestic dentistry manual pulp extractors manufactured by KMIZ are used, they are produced in the form of 2 options: short, whose length is 30 mm, and long, up to 50 mm. Their size is labeled according to ISO from 10 to 35.
French manufacturer Micro Mega also produces pulp extractors in all sizes.
VDW produces variants with a plastic handle for a more comfortable tool retention.
