Brenner tumor ovary (fibroepitelioma) represents a rare pathology which is detected at later stages or randomly (during routine gynecological procedures). This tumor occurs in patients of different ages, including childhood.

The incidence is 1-2% of the total number of all benign this localization. Brenner tumor can be combined with other tumors, and in the later stages to cause serious complications.

Causes of

The reasons for the formation of such fibroepiteliom not fully understood. There are two main theories appearance of tumor Brenner:

  1. This tumor cells is associated with an abnormality, which is laid at the genetic level.
  2. Brenner tumor develops from normal ovary cells which undergo characteristic changes under the influence of the different mutagenic agents.

By its histological structure Brenner tumor resembles fibroma (or fibroepiteliomu). It can arise from different layers of the ovary: stromal, epithelial ducts. In most cases, it's benign, but recorded isolated cases of malignant course.

What moments contribute to the development fibroepiteliomy:

  • infectious and inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs;
  • menstrual irregularities;
  • hormonal imbalance;
  • compared to other tumors in the body;
  • chronic related diseases (diabetes, hepatitis, renal pathology, and others.).

Most often diagnosed in women after 45 years, but can occur in young girls.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

This type fibroepiteliomy, can either produce or not produce hormones. This factor affects the clinical symptoms of the disease. In addition, the size of the matter formation and the degree of pressure on the surrounding organs and structures.

Symptoms that can accompany this pathology:

  • bleeding from the genital tract;
  • signs of hormonal disorders (excessive hair growth as in men, enlargement of the clitoris, voice change, masculinization);
  • pain and discomfort in the ovaries;
  • problems with reproduction (miscarriages, infertility).

Interesting! Women with this type of fibroepiteliomy during menopause observed the resumption of menstrual bleeding.

Such signs are characteristic of those tumors Brenner, which produce excess hormones or reach impressive sizes. In all other cases fibroepitelioma asymptomatic and does not bring any discomfort to the patient.

Important! Brenner tumor in women is often associated with other tumors of the ovaries and uterus. In these situations, the clinical picture may vary widely based on the type of tumor and prevalence of process.

In the early stages of diagnosis is difficult, given the lack of clinical manifestations and small size formation. Fibroepitelioma can be discovered accidentally during gynecological operations on the ovaries on another occasion.

What diagnostic methods allow to suspect the presence of Brenner tumor:

  • ultrasonography (US). It shows the presence and size of additional tumors in the ovaries. It can not definitively confirm or rule out the diagnosis of the tumor;
  • computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Indicate the exact size of tumors, its relationship with the ovary, the state of nearby lymph nodes;
  • diagnostic laparoscopy and biopsy. Under endoscopic control take a bit fibroepiteliomy for histological examination. Only this method allows you to definitively establish the diagnosis and decide on treatment regimen.

Treatment approaches

Treatment in most cases, surgery. A tumor usually unilateral removed together with the capsule. At larger sizes it can be removed together with the ovary.

Brenner tumor

Various conservative therapies (hormones, chemotherapy) proved ineffective in the treatment of this type fibroepiteliom.

The method and extent of surgery is determined by the treating doctor, who is familiar with all the results of diagnostic studies of the patient.

Forecast

In identifying the disease in its early stages in most cases the prognosis is favorable. Unilateral removal leads to normal hormonal balance, and fully complies with the second ovary reproductive and hormonal functions.

In the literature you can find the description of a few cases of malignant tumors of Brenner flow, its combination with the body of the uterus and ovarian cancer. In such situations, the likelihood of a favorable prognosis is significantly reduced. Will have a value of a type of cancer and its volume distribution.

Brenner tumor of the ovary is a benign neoplasm, which to a certain point may be asymptomatic. In the later stages it causes complications and may become one of the factors of development of other tumors. Timely diagnosis will remove fibroepiteliomu early and return the patient to the familiar life.
