A woman's condition is cyclical and depends on the concentration of many hormones in the blood. Sometimes the menstrual cycle is painless and imperceptible, announcing itself only with the need for additional hygiene products for several days. But sometimes the stomach hurts in the middle of the cycle, and this makes the woman wonder if everything is all right.
Non-hazardous physiological pain
In most cases, pain is an alarm and signals that something has gone wrong in the body. However, sometimes she only tells the woman that she needs to stop and rest a little, so as not to interfere with nature's production of the necessary processes.
One of the reasons why the lower abdomen pulls in the middle of the menstrual cycle is ovulation.
The period begins 1-3 weeks before ovulation. The countdown starts from the moment of the onset of the menstruation itself. This time is called the first, follicular phase. Under the control of the follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormone, the follicle matures - a special "sac" in the ovary, inside which the egg grows and prepares for release. By the time of ovulation, the follicle matures completely, and then ruptures due to a sharp jump in the concentration of hormones, after which the egg, ready for fertilization, goes into adulthood. Moving along the fallopian tube into the uterine cavity, she is waiting for a meeting with the sperm. These 3-4 days of the month a woman is the most beautiful and sexy, which is deliberately invented by Nature in order to increase the likelihood of intercourse and conception.
In some, ovulation goes unnoticed, while in others, in addition to increasing libido, there are unpleasant sensations in milk glands (they become tender, full and slightly painful), as well as pain in the lower part belly.
A slight bleeding during the rupture of the follicle, due to which a small amount of blood is released, irritates the peritoneum, as a result of which it pulls the lower abdomen in the middle of the female cycle. In girls with a low pain threshold, even the moment of rupture is felt directly due to irritation of the nerve endings.
After ovulation, events can develop in two ways, depending on whether the pregnancy occurs or not. If fertilization has occurred, a corpus luteum is formed at the site of the follicle, which will synthesize the hormones necessary for pregnancy until the placenta is formed. If pregnancy does not occur, the corpus luteum atrophies and the body prepares for endometrial rejection, menstruation occurs, everything repeats.
If in the middle of the cycle the lower abdomen hurts like during menstruation, menstruation is regular, and the painful sensations last no more than 2 days and go away on their own, you should not worry. Give yourself a little break from household chores, indulge in your favorite food, or start working on offspring, because these are the days that are most suitable for conception, and also include regular physical activity in the daily regimen (they will help not only with painful ovulation, but also with cramps during menstruation).
Ovarian apoplexy
Even physiological processes sometimes end in disaster. So, sometimes during ovulation, not only rupture of the follicle occurs, but also of the entire ovary. This life-threatening and reproductive illness is called apoplexy and requires urgent medical attention. If the ovary ruptures, massive bleeding develops, which can lead to large blood loss.
Apoplexy is especially common after aggressive intercourse during ovulation.
If, after sexual intercourse in the middle of the menstrual cycle, you have sharply pronounced pulling pains in the abdominal cavity, especially in its lower part, accompanied by weakness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, low blood pressure and pallor, call an ambulance immediately and go to the hospital for treatment. Here it is important to provide assistance within a few hours and prevent the development of shock.
The appearance of similar signs may be associated with a ruptured ovarian cyst.
The onset of pregnancy
Such a wonderful event as pregnancy is accompanied by a massive restructuring of the body. At first, the female body, oddly enough, tries to reject the ovum, perceiving it for a foreign agent. The second half of pregnancy, on the contrary, is aimed at keeping the fetus inside as long as possible.
After fertilization, the egg, now called the embryo, must find a place for itself in the uterine cavity and attach to the prepared endometrium, which is rich in blood vessels. The moment the embryo is introduced into the wall of the uterus is called implantation. This event occurs 5-6 days after fertilization, that is, just in the middle of the menstrual period.
A change in the balance of hormones and the implantation itself becomes the answer why the stomach hurts in the middle of the cycle, as before menstruation. If on the 13-20th day from the beginning of menstruation you notice this symptom (some women, in addition, observe at the same time small spotting), consider taking a pregnancy test or donating blood to determine the concentration HCG.
Do not forget that sometimes a fertilized egg is attached not to the wall of the uterus, but in the cavity of the fallopian tube or even somewhere in the pelvic cavity. This condition is called an ectopic pregnancy and is always terminated either surgically or on its own.
If a spontaneous abortion occurs outside the uterus, acute pain and bleeding occurs, which requires an immediate visit to a gynecologist.
Menstrual irregularities
Normally, the period of menstruation lasts from 28 to 32 days. However, during puberty (when the first menstrual period usually appears) and shortly before the onset of menopause, hormonal disruptions occur, and the cycle begins to "dance": it lasts 21 days, then 40. That is why pain on the left or right in the lower abdomen in the middle of the cycle is perceived as pathology, while in fact it portends the onset of the next menstruation. The same changes can occur in reproductive age due to hormonal imbalance.
Some methods of contraception
Oral contraceptives and an intrauterine device can cause painful feelings.
During menstruation, there is a slight opening of the cervix for the unhindered exit of the endometrium. This can cause a displacement of the intrauterine device, a change in its location and sometimes mild inflammation of the endometrium, provoking pain both immediately after bleeding and continuing after. If the whine is not strong, and there are no other symptoms: profuse bleeding, pathological discharge, fever, menstruation failure - a specialist's comment is not required. Take a pain reliever. Otherwise, you should seek help as soon as possible.
At the beginning of taking oral contraceptives, the body adapts to changes in hormonal balance. This can provoke pain and a pulling sensation in the abdomen. Most often this does not have any negative consequences, however, only the doctor knows which drug and how to start taking it.
Inflammatory processes of the female genital organs
The presence of diseases such as adnexitis, oophoritis, salpingitis and endometriosis may explain why the whole abdomen or uterus hurts in the middle of the cycle. Pain may be accompanied by:
- an increase in temperature;
- chills, fatigue;
- nausea, dizziness;
- pain during intercourse, urination and bowel movements (with endometriosis);
- problems with conceiving and bearing a child.
These inflammatory processes in the pelvic area are dangerous with the development of complications, especially infertility. Be careful! See your doctor in time.
Sexually transmitted infections
Syphilis, gonorrhea, herpes, chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, trichomoniasis and other STIs can explain why sips in the pelvis at any time during the menstrual period, including in the middle. In addition to pain, they cause unusual discharge from the genitals (greenish-brown with an unpleasant odor), itching and burning, and an increase in body temperature. Therefore, make it a rule to regularly check for STIs, as well as use protective equipment even before your stomach hurts.
Other diseases of the abdominal and pelvic organs
The organs of the reproductive system have a lot of "neighbors", the pathologies of which are well masked behind pain in the abdomen. And often a woman associates them with cyclical changes. However, one must not forget about the organs of the urinary and digestive systems.
Appendicitis in an irregular position can cause severe pain in the lower abdomen, especially on the right. Surgical help is necessary if, in addition to sharp pain, you feel heaviness in the stomach, lack of appetite, fever, nausea and vomiting.
Pyelonephritis is an inflammatory kidney disease. The pain can be localized on one side, spread to the lower back and back, or be shingles in nature, fever and severe intoxication are observed.
Cystitis, urethritis. If urination causes pain, soreness in the lower abdomen, a slight increase in body temperature should force you to seek medical attention.
Listen to your body, because this is a very complex system that is capable of self-regulation and timely signaling of problems. Understanding your body's messages will allow you to live a longer life and enjoy every moment of it.
