On the teeth of any person, mineral deposits accumulate, which gradually lead to dental diseases. Besides, plaque spoils the aesthetic appearance. This is especially noticeable among politicians, actors, journalists and other public figures.
To give the desired look to natural and artificial teeth in therapeutic dentistry use polishers, felt, grinding wheels and brushes.
Dental polishers: goals and application features
After professional teeth cleaning they are often polished. This is necessary to give an aesthetic appearance and to prevent the appearance of plaque in the future. To carry out this procedure, dental polishers are used.
After finishing polishing, it is also recommended to treat the surface of the teeth with fluoride substances to strengthen the enamel, since it is partially removed during polishing.
Polishers are available in various shapes:
- end brushes;
- polishing strips;
- various types of cups (caps);
- disks;
- cylinders;
- cones.
Caps, as well as cylindrical and conical polishers, are made of rubber, silicone, more expensive ones are diamond-coated.
They also differ in shape and filling, they are empty or filled, with various protrusions, notches, brushes, edges, sticks. In addition, they differ in the degree of hardness: they are medium, hard and soft. All manufacturers have one-sided marking - each degree of hardness has its own color.
Modern dental polishers are used for grinding and processing not only natural teeth, but also artificial ones. Implants and crowns made of any material: ceramics, acrylic, metal and others. When processing artificial prostheses, soft rubber or silicone caps are used. They do not heat up when rubbed, i.e. do not heat the surface of the tooth, and therefore do not harm the enamel and do not cause discomfort in the patient.
Caps on tip attached in various ways, from standard (due to the usual latch at the end) to non-standard (various holders for mandrels, which are attached with discs or screwed on a regular thread).
The caps rotate at a speed of 2-5 thousand revolutions per minute.
Filtsy
Filts are made of felt or felt, they are of various shapes: wheel-shaped, lenticular, conical, finger, etc. There is a hole in the center for mounting on the machine, used for processing and grinding crowns and dentures. Grinding mastic is applied to the felt, a prosthesis is applied, the machine is started and grinding occurs.
The number of revolutions of the machine and the material of the felt is selected depending on the material from which the denture is made. For metal structures, it is recommended that the machine produce up to 3000 rpm, for plastic structures, the speed should be lower, otherwise the prosthesis will heat up and deform.
The specific shape of the felt is selected depending on the purpose of use and the type of prosthesis.
In addition to grinding, it is also used for polishing the enamel surface. To do this, a filter brush is attached to the tip, lubricated with a grinding emulsion.
Dental circles
Wheels are used to grind teeth and to process dentures. There are different diameters: 12 mm, 14 mm, 16 mm, 18 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm and up to 3 mm thick, as well as various shapes - disc-shaped, saucer-shaped, lenticular, etc. There are metal, vulcanite, paper.
As a grinding material, the following can be applied to the wheel: corundum, sodium carbide. As a rule, for metal wheels, the material is applied to only one surface of the wheel, and thus the tooth is processed only on one side, while the adjacent one is not damaged. Vulcanite on both sides. Paper - on one side, they are used for grinding and leveling the edges of fillings.
Comparison table:
Tool type | Grinding teeth | Teeth grinding | Teeth polishing |
---|---|---|---|
Polishers. Convenient to use, mobile. They are used for enamel bleaching and polishing. | — | + | + |
Filtsy. They are used when working with dentures, as well as in their manufacture. | — | + | + |
Grinding wheels. The teeth are ground and adjusted to the desired size. Careless use can damage the enamel. | + | + | — |
Dentists use polishers to whiten teeth. Dental discs are more commonly used in the treatment of dentures and when fitting them.
