(Speedx) - silicone mass for taking dental impressions.
It includes: base mass, activator and corrective mass.
What features it has, how to use it, and whether it causes side effects - about this (and not only) in our material.
The material is produced in Switzerland by Coltene / Whaledent AG.
Differs in the following factors:
- the optimal solution for cases when a two-layer method of dental impression is used;
- suitable for two-phase impression method;
- the base is removed with a copper ring;
- the material is used to create control impressions after tooth preparation;
- has high resistance and excellent biological compatibility;
- has a low viscosity, which is very convenient for creating models.
What is the mass:
- polysiloxane is a mixture that, when reacted with the oral mucosa and an activator, forms a mesh structure with optimal viscosity;
- base material color - light gray;
- the color of the activator is green.
Produced in the form:
- base and corrective mass;
- activator.
Average silicone impression mass Speedex starts to freeze after 300 sec. in the oral cavity. At room temperature, it acquires a viscosity that is convenient for creating a model of the dentition.

Assortment of Speedx
Speedex products consist of the following components.
Speedex impression material, set
The product includes:
- base weight (910 ml.);
- activating substance (60 ml.);
- correcting mass (140 ml.).
Features of the mixture:
- the most accurate transfer of all details;
- slight shrinkage;
- time to create a model - up to 72 hours.
Impression material Speedex light body surface activated
Mix for creating dental impressions Speedex light body surface activated - "light" version of the base, created on the basis of silicone.
Components that make up the mixture:
- polysiloxane;
- condensable elastomer.
Has a blue color (sometimes green), has a low density.
Speedex putty
Impression mixture, also based on a condensable silicone elastomer. It is produced in light gray color, has a high density.
Indications for use
The base for making impressions of Speedx is used to create:
- basic dental impressions using two-layer technique;
- external dental impressions using the two-phase impression method;
- external impressions together with the technique of taking an impression with a ring;
- control dental models.
Applications:
- creation of models of dentition for their further correction;
- use in the lining technique.
The mass is based on natural ingredients that are perfectly tolerated by the body. Therefore, the remedy does not have any contraindications.
Side effects
No side effects were noticed after using Speedx Dental Paste. Neither the patients nor the dental staff. The material hardens in the mouth, and although it is elastic, after removing the mass, it is necessary to control so that nothing remains between the teeth.
If the material gets into the eyes, it is enough to rinse them with clean water, and then consult an ophthalmologist for prophylaxis. But, the Speedx catalyst is not dangerous for soft tissues, and does not cause allergic reactions.
It is important to remember that the mixture should not be in the mouth for twice the time of its complete solidification.
Method of administration and dosage
According to the instructions for use, you must adhere to the following rules:
- Measure out the optimal amount of mass using a measure (measuring spoon), distribute it on your hand, and knead well. (When picking up the mixture with a spoon, it should be dipped into the mass only once).
- Squeeze out equal parts of activator and catalyst, mix them with the bulk.
- Place in the mouth, wait for the mixture to become elastic and less viscous.
- Pull the impression out of your mouth with a measuring spoon.
The required dose of the mixture is selected using a rigid measuring spoon. It is important to remember that too much or too little mixture can affect the setting time. The compound can be used with all modern dental plaster types.
Mix the mass thoroughly with your fingers for at least 30 seconds, until the marbling disappears and the material becomes uniform. If special mixing devices are used, the procedure must be followed according to the instructions for their use.
Model making and impression taking
To remove the model, you need to introduce uniform parts of the mass on the impression tray and press down with your teeth for a few seconds, until it hardens. If the double impression method is used, then the spoon must be inserted up to the central bridge, which will allow the material to harden as quickly as possible.
The best option for making an impression is from 30 minutes to 72 hours, after removing the mass from the mouth. To make the model as simple as possible, the mixture should be rinsed with warm water - this removes surface tension.
After the impression is taken out of the mouth, it must be rinsed with water. Then, for 30 minutes, disinfection is carried out with glutaraldehyde (2%), sodium hypochlorite (1%) and iodide Providion. Measuring bowls must be protected from water.
Spidex products retain their properties longer than indicated on the packaging. But, subject to the temperature regime of 14-25 degrees, with tightly closed lids. The humidity should be around 50%.
The casts should be stored at room temperature. So they retain their original appearance much longer. Do not expose them to direct sunlight.
Speedx complies with accepted norms and standards (ISO 4823: 1992). But, negative changes in mass were noticed at temperatures above 25 degrees and ambient humidity above 50%.
The mixture is widely distributed among dental institutions, due to its excellent qualities in terms of transfer of the smallest details of the teeth, as well as a long time, which is always enough to make a model dentition.
