The dentist is often visited by patients who require treatment (primary or secondary) root canals. The goal of the intervention is to target the microbes inside them. But, for starters, they carry out mechanical processing, including removal of old root filling. To do this, the doctor uses various preparations, one of which is the RC prep root canal expansion gel.

RC prep was first offered in 1968 and the lineup has not changed since then.
Now it is produced in a syringe in the form of a white gel in the following forms:
- in syringes - 9 gr. (in the package there are 2 syringes of 9 gr. drug);
- in a bottle - 18 g each;
- in a jar - 227 gr.
Applicable for chemical root canal treatment teeth, including difficult to pass.
Gel composition:
- 15% ethylene diamine sodium tetraacetate (EDTA);
- 10% urea peroxide;
- polyethylene glycol (gelling agent).
EDTA Is a neutral salt. Due to its chemical properties, it has the ability to take away calcium from any structures in which it is contained. Possesses antiseptic action.
During the treatment of root canals, as a result of the friction of the instrument, a mixture of the remnants of the "nerve" (organic matter) and the mineral component is formed. EDTA destroys organics. Full antiseptic treatment is impossible without it. This means that the percentage of successful treatment is greatly reduced.
Thanks to its composition and gel base, RC prep facilitates the sliding of the instrument along the tooth canal, making work easier. This only applies if the rotation speed is low, i.e. when using hand tools.
Instructions for use
After anesthesia, the tooth is isolated from saliva. The dentist conducts preparation of a carious cavity and opening of the tooth cavity according to standard protocols. Then washed with sodium hypochlorite. Root canals are found and processed. Sequential alternation of sodium hypochlorite and RC prep is necessary, since the former dissolves organic matter, and the latter dissolves the mineral component of their walls. Mechanical processing begins with a small file (tool). Each is placed in the gel channel.
It should be noted that sodium hypochlorite starts to foam when it reacts with the peroxide contained in the RC prep. This promotes the search for channels, dissolution of organic matter and increases the antiseptic effect.
RC prep gel is the drug of choice for a large number of dentists.
