PRF membrane: obtaining by centrifuge, I and A varieties, indications and contraindications for use

PRF membraneContacting a dental clinic is a difficult moment for many, because most of the manipulations are accompanied by unpleasant sensations.

Although modern technologies have developed in such a way that many problems can be forgotten.

In particular, about inflammation after tooth extraction.

What is PRF?

When a tooth is removed or implants are installed, inflammatory reactions of tissues often occur, which is caused by a violation of their integrity and the ingress of foreign substances. At the same time, it is difficult for a person to eat, and in everyday life, constant discomfort is felt.

These problems can be solved by using the PRF membrane, which is a biomaterial obtained from the patient's blood cells.

It is based on fibrin protein taken from the patient and enriched with growth factors, which are usually platelets.

It is a flat piece of tissue applied to the affected surface. Due to the fact that the material is own, there is no rejection, the cells quickly tighten the wound. As a result, the processes of tissue repair are accelerated at times, and the likelihood of a negative reaction is greatly reduced.

How is the substance obtained?

Receiving PRF takes place directly at the clinic.

To do this, a small amount of blood is taken from the client and placed in a test tube, which is installed in the PRF centrifuge, where the blood is divided into parts:

  • plasma;
  • erythrocytes;
  • fibrin clot.

The latter is placed in a special box, where it will take the form of a membrane with a certain thickness.

Depending on the direction of use, specialists receive two types of membranes: I-PRF and A-PRF.

The first is used in situations where it is necessary to literally save tissue from further destruction. It is mixed with a substance that replaces the bone structure, and then injected into the periodontal tissues. As a result, blood circulation improves, the edges grow together better, and the gum tissue is restored.

The A-PRF membrane is said to be improved because it was developed relatively recently based on traditional technology. It is used to cover bone materials, eliminate palate defects, during surgical interventions.

Indications and contraindications for use

Indications for use are:

  1. Accelerating the treatment of periodontitis.
  2. Acceleration of healing and reduction of pain during tooth extraction.
  3. Preservation of the shape, volume and height of the bone after tooth extraction.
  4. Prevention of volumetric defects during surgery and during implant fixation.

Despite the high efficiency and safety of the membrane, because it is made from its own biomaterial and tissue rejection does not occur, side effects are still possible. They are primarily associated with the characteristics of the patient's body and the use of medications.

Contraindications to the use of the membrane are:

  1. The presence of infected wounds in the mouth.
  2. The patient is allergic to animal collagen.

In addition, the use for patients is not recommended:

  1. Have a long history of smoker.
  2. Exposed to radiation.
  3. Have chronic or autoimmune diseases.
  4. Undergoing hormone therapy.

The use of scientific advances in medicine has long been natural, allowing to significantly increase the effectiveness of any manipulation. An affordable tool such as the PRF membrane significantly speeds up the healing process and simplifies surgical procedures.
