Dental Pluger (Vertical Condenser) - Hand-held endodontic instrument used in the process tooth filling. It is needed for thermoplastic injection and condensation of gutta-percha in the root canal of the tooth.
The smooth shank of the instrument has a blunt, flat tip. This shape allows pressure to be transferred to the filling and allows the tip to penetrate to the desired depth. High quality steel wire with a round cross section is used in the manufacture. Medical sterile plastic is used for the plugger handle.
The gutta-percha used for filling is a mixture of recycled latex. This material ensures long-term sealing of the root canals.
Varieties of tools
In dentistry, different types of plugers are used, depending on the function performed:
- Finger, equipped with a small handle, which provides a comfortable grip in your fingers. Used for small gentle actions inside the mouth.
- Manual has a large handle, in size correlated with the size of other types of endodontic instruments. The shape is selected so that it is comfortable to hold in the hand.
- Heating (heat transfer) which is a kind of double-sided instrument. It is used to warm up gutta-percha and its condensation inside the tooth cavity. Its working part is of two types:spreader (it is heated and inserted into the root canal, softening the gutta-percha) and graduated - with its help, the condensation of the gutta-percha is carried out.
