Piercing types

Lip piercing is not only a mechanical process, it also carries aesthetic characteristics. There are many types of piercing and each has its own characteristics:

  1. Monroe - bears the name of a famous film actress who had a fly above her upper lip. Traditionally, it is done on the left side, but if the earring is located on the right near the lip, then such a puncture is already called Madonna, after another popular diva.
  2. Dahlia - located in the corner of the mouth.
  3. Piercing smile implies a puncture of the upper bridle, as a result, an earring appears during a smile, which is why it got that name. The puncture is practically painless, but uncomfortable, as it often clings to the surrounding tissue.

  5. Piercing Labret is done on the lower lip, usually bananas, rings and half rings are used for it. The vertical labret is more often used.
  6. Ashley's piercing is a puncture of the lower lip exactly in the middle. It looks very impressive, however, it is very painful and does not heal well, and after removing the earring, a scar remains.

  1. The use of two symmetrical punctures at the same time over the mouth is called an angel bite.
  2. Symmetrical pricks located in the very corners of the mouth - a dahlia bite.
  3. Two vertical labrettes are a popular piercing called a snake bite, and parallel on one side are a spider bite.
  4. A dog bite is a combination of two punctures on opposite sides of the upper lip and two punctures on the lower lip.

Features of lip piercing

The lips are quite a sensitive part of the body, they have many nerve endings, as well as an important mucous membrane inside the mouth. In addition, they are located next to organs such as teeth and tongue. Any piercing should be done under sterile conditions by a specialist.

Another feature of this type of procedure is the abundant secretion of saliva, which must be reduced, for this, cotton swabs are used, they cover large salivary glands, the dentist does the same during the manipulations.

How is the lip pierced and does it hurt?

Piercing can be done with a gun or needle. Specialists prefer a needle, because when using a gun, tissue particles can fall under the working plates and become a source of infection in the future. Before the procedure itself, you must make sure that there are no contraindications - colds, HIV infection, hepatitis, birthmarks at the puncture site, inflammatory diseases of the skin of the face of any etiology, menstruation.

The steps of the procedure are as follows:

  1. The puncture site and the instrument are treated with an antiseptic.
  2. A mark is made, in the place of which the puncture will be carried out.
  3. The lip is clamped with special surgical forceps and pulled slightly to the side so as not to touch the gums and teeth, then a needle with a catheter is inserted with a quick movement, and an earring is placed in its place.
  4. The mouth is rinsed with an antiseptic, cotton swabs are removed.

Many people wonder about the painfulness of the procedure. If the process is carried out correctly, then everything happens quickly and there is almost no pain.

Puncture care

The wound requires careful maintenance, especially in the first 72 hours. The injured area must be washed with a disinfectant, not only from the outside, but also from the inside. It is desirable to “pour” the drug into the canal.

In addition, some rules should be followed:

  • do not remove the jewelry until the wound has healed;
  • do not touch the piercing site with dirty hands or any objects;
  • follow a diet based on soups and cereals, and spicy, sour and salty foods are excluded. It is also undesirable to eat solid rough food;
  • drink a course of B vitamins, which will help tissues recover faster.

Possible complications

As mentioned, if the piercing technique is not followed, complications may arise:

  • the development of diseases of the teeth and gums, they can be damaged during the piercing or later by the earring;
  • changes in the functionality of the oral cavity and a sharp increase in salivation, which will affect swallowing and chewing, speech;
  • the appearance of irritation and allergic diseases;
  • damage to nerve endings and decreased sensitivity;
  • the formation of keloid scars at the piercing site;
  • wound infection and the development of various bacterial and viral diseases.

Jewelry selection rules

First of all, a lip earring should be made of high quality materials that do not oxidize.

This could be:

  • gold;
  • silver;
  • zircon;
  • surgical steel;
  • titanium;
  • teflon;
  • bioplast.

It is better to purchase those products that you can be sure of. Make sure the earring is cleaned with a disinfectant before inserting the ring into your lip. It is worth resorting to it when changing one piece of jewelry to another. And in no case use strangers.

At first, it is better to choose a simpler decoration that will not interfere with washing the wound. The size of the jewelry must also correspond to individual parameters. The earring should not squeeze the tissue too much, otherwise it will lead to scarring.

Each type of piercing has its own set of jewelry - these are labrettes with different tips, microbananas, a variety of rings.

How to pierce your lip at home?

You can also pierce at home, although this is not the best option, since it is difficult to provide high-quality treatment at home. In addition, the lack of skill can lead to an asymmetry of the puncture, which will ruin the entire appearance.

Home piercing is carried out according to the same rules as professional:

  • the surface of the lip and the earring are disinfected;
  • the needle and catheter are used by the pharmacy, they must be in sterile packages that have not been opened;
  • the package is opened and a quick puncture is made, starting from the outside of the lip;
  • an earring is inserted.

When piercing, a firm hand and accuracy are important. The longer the process lasts, the more painful it will feel, and the wound will be uneven.
