Increased salivation in the process of work - the nuances faced by dentists.
To eliminate such difficulties in the work, aspirators were invented.
They make it possible to carry out medical procedures and surgery comfortably for the doctor and the patient.

Dental aspirator - what is it, principle of operation
The system, which is designed to suction saliva, blood, dust, particles of pastes and materials from the oral cavity, is called a dental aspirator.
All such devices work on the principle of suction, which is created due to reduced pressure. The holder contains the dust extraction mouthpieces and saliva ejector, a special cannula is put on them. Due to the created vacuum, the liquid is sucked out, which is pumped out and goes into the sewer through the separator.
Allocate centralized and individual aspiration equipment. In the first case, the system is part of the workplace, in other words, it is built into the structure of the dental unit. Most often, the unit is placed behind the cuspidor on a movable console. In addition to suction, other controls are also located there.
Standalone (individual) are not part of the installation. They can be used both for one and for several workplaces, moving on wheels or other mechanisms.
Each model has its own technical characteristics:
- the amount of fluid flowing;
- dimensions (weight and size);
- power;
- intake air volume;
- noise level;
- performance.
What is included in the aspiration system?
The device functions due to the interconnection of 3 elements - an aspiration unit, a vacuum generator, a separator:
- The suction unit is the heart of the entire system. The process of work is monitored here, power system connectors and control parts are located. In some cases, the unit is located on the suspended console to ensure ergonomics.
- Low pressure is required to create the vacuum required for the device to operate. It is created in the generator. This pulls liquid and dust out of the cavity and transports everything to the separator. All generators are divided into three types depending on the method of forming the vacuum: air, water and combined (air-water).
- The separator is an integral part of the aspiration device that separates the suctioned material into liquid and air. The fluid is directed back to the generator. The process lasts until the specialist finishes the work. During cyclic operation, the vacuum pump turns off, the liquid enters the sewer system using a pump or by gravity. There are also separators that work continuously. In them, the liquid is constantly drained, without interruption. Separators are also divided into two types of placement - inside the system and outside. The first type is smaller than the second.
Types of systems
In dental practice, three types of suction units are used based on the type of vacuum generator:
- Wet. The turbine is activated by an electric motor, a stream of water is created, which forms a vacuum. This type is used in centralized installations. Most suitable for surgical operations, for whiteningbecause these procedures produce a lot of saliva and blood.
- Air. The main element of the installation is a turbine-type vacuum pump. The fan, powered by an electric motor, creates the vacuum required for the device. The exhaust air is discharged directly from the office thanks to the powerful pump. They are widely used in various types of systems. Unlike air-water, it consumes less air. For this type, the separator of each treatment chair must be connected to the sewer separately.
- Air-water. The flow of water together with air creates a vacuum. They pass through the valve under strong pressure. The separator is located next to the system or directly in the block. Devices of this type belong to the low / medium price category. Despite the relatively low cost, the installation has two significant drawbacks: high noise, exhaust air emission occurs in the office itself. To ensure the environmentally friendly operation of the device, it is recommended to use an additional special ventilation system. Ultimately, its cost may be more expensive than the system itself.
Note! During operation, each of the species needs regular care - washing, cleaning filters, disinfection.

How to choose a device?
When choosing an aspiration unit, the main focus is on practicality in operation.
The following is taken into account:
- dimensions of the device;
- technical characteristics that meet the specified goals;
- which nozzles / parts will have to be replaced during operation;
- it is necessary to take into account not only power indicators, but also ease of use;
- compare the new model with the previous version that was in the dental office;
- indicators of maximum vacuum;
- battery life;
- overflow protection system;
- the number of installations that require a vacuum suction.
Note! The price of the system depends not only on the configuration, but also on the type of vacuum pump.
