In therapeutic dentistry, for high-quality disinfection and rinsing of the root canals of the tooth, it is necessary to use special instruments - endodontic needles and syringes.
The end syringe consists of a cannula nozzle and a cylindrical piston, the thread on which prevents the needle from jumping off and splashing the solution. The kit is completely ready for use. To use the endo needle, you must connect it to a regular medical syringe.
Their use helps to completely eliminate pathogens and avoid inflammation of the peri-apical tissues surrounding the dental root.

Use in dentistry
Endodontic needles and syringes are used by dentists-therapists to rinse tooth canals with antiseptic solutions. This stage is carried out before filling the root lumen filling material and is essential for quality treatment. Careful handling with an endo needle or syringe, for example Belodez or sodium hypochlorite reduces the risk of periodontitis by 60%.
Endo needles for canal processing are yellow or gray cannulas. The working part is made of stainless steel, flexible and can take various shapes. It has a minimum diameter (0.3-0.5 mm), which allows it to be used even in sclerosed and obturated canals. The working opening is located on the side, which allows the antiseptic fluid to flow in a uniform stream, this reduces the risk of injury to the periapical tissues.
The endo syringes have a volume of 2.0 ml and the cannula attachment is threaded. This feature allows you to firmly fix the needle, which is especially important when treating the canal with aggressive antiseptics (hypochlorite). The possibility of the cannula sliding off the syringe and splashing of the solution is completely excluded.
These endoinstruments can be disinfected and sterilized by any available means (soaking in a disinfectant solution, autoclaving, processing in a dry heat cabinet).
Types of tools
Endodontic needles and syringes can be:
- disposable - after use they must be disposed of;
- reusable - sterilized and can be used several times.
They also differ in the diameters of the working part:
- 0.3 mm - for rinsing the canals molars, premolars or in sclerosed teeth;
- 0.5 mm - for processing incisors, fangs or periodontal pockets.
How to use it correctly
In order for root processing to be effective, it is necessary to adhere to the following algorithm when working with tools:
- Remove the syringe from the sterile packaging.
- Collect an antiseptic liquid into the cylinder, pulling the piston as far as it will go.
- Connect the endodontic needle to the cylinder by screwing it clockwise.
- Insert the working part of the cannula into the canal lumen, not reaching the root apex.
- Smoothly squeeze out the liquid from the endosyringe, collecting its remains with a dental aspirator.
- Pull the instrument carefully out of the canal.
If re-use is required, the cannula is unscrewed counterclockwise, the piston is pulled out of the cylinder. All parts of the instrument are disinfected and sterilized separately.
