Colbiocin ointment helps cope with eye infection

Chlamydia and mycoplasmas, protozoa, fungi and amoebae - many microorganisms are waiting for a convenient moment to settle in the delicate tissues of the eye and the mucous membrane of the eyelids.

Infectious diseases of the eyes are caused by infection: blepharitis, conjunctivitis, in severe cases, keratitis and corneal ulcer develops.

If treated improperly, they can lead to severe visual impairment and even blindness.

In order to effectively cope with any pathogen and quickly get rid of the often emerging secondary infection, tools are used that combine several active components.

instagram viewer
  • blepharitis;
  • blepharoconjunctivitis;
  • conjunctivitis of various etiologies( purulent, fecal, and also catarrhal);
  • septic ulcer of the cornea;
  • keratitis;
  • dacryocystitis.

Form and Composition

The medication is produced in two forms, these are eye drops and ointment. In the form of an ointment, it is used much more often.

It is a semi-solid translucent yellowish mass, packaged in metal tubes of 5 grams. It consists of three active substances:

  1. Tetracycline( 0.005g 1g ointment).
  2. Chloramphenicol( 0.01 g 1g).
  3. Colistin( 180000 IU 1g).

Tetracycline is a drug with a wide spectrum of action, bacteriostatic. Suppresses protein synthesis of gram-negative microbes, such as pathogens of mycoplasmosis and chlamydia, is not active against fungi and protozoa.

Chloramphenicol is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microbes, fungi, and amoebas, which sometimes cause severe, hard-to-treat sores of the cornea.

Colistin, along with chloralphenicol, destroys fungi, some of the Gram-negative microorganisms, including tetracycline-resistant( Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Pfeiffer's stick).

One of its advantages is the lack of cross-resistance with other antibiotics.

Excipients - lanolin, petroleum jelly and petroleum jelly - are chemically neutral fillers, which have an easy softening and moisturizing effect.

Interaction of ointment Colbiocin with other drugs has not been studied at the moment. It is released on prescription.

Method of application

A strip of Kolbiozin 1-1.5 cm long is squeezed out under the lower eyelid of the diseased eye. Then, with the eye closed, the eyelid is slightly pressed until the ointment is completely dissolved under it.

For a few minutes it is recommended to keep the eye closed so that the melted ointment naturally spreads over the surface of the eye and the mucous lids.

Repeat the procedure for treatment with ointment only 3-4 times per day. When the product is combined with eye drops, then ointment should be applied once a day, best before bedtime. Depending on the disease, the course of treatment will last from 7 to 14 days.

Side effects and contraindications

As a side effect of using Colbiocin, a temporary blurred vision, an irritation manifested by redness, itching and lacrimation immediately after using the ointment was described.

Due to the low concentration of active ingredients and the external application, overdose cases are not known.

In exceptional cases, with long-term use, due to the presence of chloramphenicol, hypoplastic bone marrow changes may occur, so it is not recommended to use the ointment for more than a few weeks.

Also during the course should give up contact lenses and regularly check the intraocular pressure.

Its use in the treatment of eye diseases is prohibited with individual intolerance of components, with severe liver and kidney disease and at the age of less than eight years.

Also, the drug is contraindicated in pregnancy and during lactation, as it easily penetrates into the milk. In case of allergic reactions, such as dermatitis, swelling, urticaria, attacks of bronchial asthma, you should immediately replace the drug.

Ointment Colbiocin helps to get rid of the many eye diseases that we indicated above. But in order that they never appeared, you need, among other things, to take special vitamins. Here are some of them:

  • Complivit Ophthalmo
  • Vitrum Vision Forte
  • Blueberry Forte

Conditions and shelf life

Requirements for conditions The tube with the drug must be kept in a cool place not accessible to children and animals.
Temperature Not higher than 25 degrees when closed and no more than 8 degrees when the tube is opened.

In the case of allergies, no positive effect after the course of treatment, or lack of money, it is easy to replace Kolbiocin with one of many similar antibacterial agents.

Some physicians also recommend alternating drugs with different active substances in order to avoid the formation of resistance in the pathogen.

To the preparations differing on structure, but similar under indications, concern:

  • Garazon;
  • Tevendex;
  • Sofradex.

In addition, there are preparations based on one of the active substances Kolbiocin. These are:

  • Cortomycetin;
  • Levomycetin;
  • Tetracycline;
  • Colistin.

They favorably differ in price, but have a narrower spectrum of action.

Reviews of patients with

Most of the people who used Kolbiocin for the treatment of eye diseases, this tool helped.

However, some had to abandon its use because of the emergence of allergies after the first use. Not everyone found it convenient to use the drug in the form of ointment.

There have also been cases when the treatment did not have an effect, because the analysis on the resistance of the pathogen to the active components of the drug was not submitted - some strains of microorganisms are not amenable to treatment with frequently used antibiotics.
