KromoglinIs a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug intended for topical use in ophthalmology.

It has antihistamine effect and promotes stabilization of fatty type cells.

This medicine blocks the entry of calcium ions into the mast cells, thus preventing the destruction of the cell and the release of allergic and inflammatory pathogens, which include histamines, bradykinin and other substances.

Indications for use

Cromoglin is used to treat and prevent allergic conjunctivitis and keratoconjunctivitis, as well as acute or chronic conjunctivitis of non-infectious nature.

These drops are prescribed and in such cases:

  • Insufficient moistening of the mucous membrane of the eyes.
  • Keratitis is an allergic type.
  • Excessive eye fatigue.
  • Inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyes due to the influence of such allergens as pet hair, plants, household chemicals, cosmetics, medicines, industrial hazards and other environmental factors.

Form release, composition

Cromoglyn is produced in the form of drops of 2% for the eyes, which are a colorless sterile liquid. They are poured into bottles of the type of droppers made of plastic with a capacity of 10 milliliters.

These vials are packed in cardboard boxes. One milliliter of drops contains 20 milligrams of cromoglycic acid in the form of a disodium salt, sodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride and purified water.

How to use

Kromoglin should be instilled in one or two drops in each eye four times during the day. The interval between instillations should be from four to six hours.

In case of emergency, the dose can be increased up to eight times. Duration of treatment is determined on an individual basis for each specific case and depends on the severity of allergic manifestations.

To administer the drug, the patient should push the lower eyelid and inject the drops into the conjunctival sac, without touching the eye.

In order for the drops to spread evenly over the eye, after burying, blink several times. The bottle should be carefully clogged after each use.

Interaction with other

preparations Parallel administration of Kromoglin drops with other medications is safe, however, the interval between instillations of the eyes with various types of drug should be at least fifteen minutes.

For the period of Cromoglin therapy, it is possible to reduce the dosage of other ophthalmic preparations that contain glucocorticosteroids.

The use of Cromoglin is accompanied by side effects very rarely. In addition, they always go by themselves and do not require medical intervention and cancellation of the above drug.

The side effects of these drops include:

  • Feeling of itching and baking in the eyes immediately after dropping.
  • Easy tingling of the eyes.
  • Hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the eye.
  • Sensation of the presence of foreign matter in the cavity of the eyes.
  • Puffiness of the eyelids.
  • Feeling of heat in the eye.
  • Slight decrease in visual acuity.
  • Barley.
  • Damage to the surface of the corneal epithelium.

Contraindications

Cromoglin drops should not be used in such cases:

  • Waiting period for the baby and breastfeeding.
  • Supersensitivity to the constituents of the drug.
  • For treatment of patients younger than four years.
  • Presence in the anamnesis of intolerance of substances from the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Patients who wear contact lenses should be removed before using the aforementioned drug and placed back only after twenty minutes.

If eye drops reduce the clearness of vision in a patient, he should not engage in responsible activities immediately after the administration of this medication.

In the first trimester of the gestational period, the use of Kromoglin drops is unacceptable, and in the second and third, they can be used with caution after assessing the relationship between the expected positive effect and the likely risk.
