Botanical Description
This herbaceous perennial lives on very moist soil, strengthening in it with its branched rhizome up to 3 cm in thickness. On the lower side of the rhizome, numerous accessory roots leave, with which the plant absorbs nutrients, and upwards from the rhizome of the ayr discards the xiphoid leaves, over 1 m in length. In June-July, on the peduncle, very similar to the leaves, an inflorescence appears in the form of an ear, which, although it forms small, inconspicuous greenish flowers, does not bear fruit in the conditions of Germany. Reproduction is carried out vegetatively( rhizomes). In Germany, the river begins to be mentioned only in 1560.It can be found along the banks of ponds, in marshy ditches and swamps, marsh forests. Collection and procurement. Find ayr is not easy, and collect it in more or less significant quantities and even more so. Therefore, large farms have been established, which are engaged in planting the rhizomes of the calamus, in order to obtain powerful plants from them. From June to July, and in the plantings and later( in early autumn), the rhizomes are excavated. After thorough cleaning, they are cut along, repeatedly cut into pieces in length of 10-20 cm and laid out in a shaded place for drying. If you need air for ingestion, it makes sense to clear the rhizome from the bark before drying.

The curative effect and application of
Air belongs to the group of aromatic bitteries and is therefore applicable for gastrointestinal diseases and diseases of the biliary system, with loss of appetite and for a general increase in the tone of the digestive tract. Particularly good for ayr helps with gastrointestinal diseases, the cause of which should be sought in the autonomic nervous system. Such patients - usually thin, almost dystrophic - complain that they rarely have a good appetite, and if it does, it disappears as soon as they sit down at the table. They eat extremely slowly and rejoice at any pause that occurs in the process of eating, and therefore always "weave" at the table behind everyone. After eating, they complain of a feeling of heaviness, pressure in the stomach, sometimes in spasmodic pains and often on a sour eructation. Diarrhea and constipation alternate. There are, however, periods when they do not suffer at all from their ailment, while any business with haste and excitement or personal adversity will not bring to naught a good state of health. The doctor does not find in these patients any organic disorders, ascertaining only the increased or decreased acidity of the gastric juice. Prescribed medications may help, but for a very short time. Neither antispasmodics( substances that remove spasms), antacids( acid-binding substances), enzyme preparations that promote digestion, or the appropriate combinations do not lead to permanent improvement. It is to such patients that the course of treatment with tea from aira helps. If they regularly before each meal - at least 2 times a day - drink 1 cup of tepid tea from the aura, the ailments pass slowly, but reliably. To enhance the healing effect of tea, the practice of using baths with aura has proved to be very useful.- Tea from the calamus: 2 teaspoons( about 3 g) of finely chopped cortex purified rhizomes pour 1/4 l of boiling water and insist for about 15 minutes. After straining, you should drink tepid tea.- Bath with calamus: For a bath of calamus - if you do not use ready-made extracts - you need about 100 g of uncleared rhizomes from the bark of aira. Which boil 10 minutes in 1 liter of water and then filter. The expressed liquid is sufficient for one bath filled with water. Since these baths are excitatory, they should not be taken in the evening. Baths from the aura have a beneficial effect on the body also with general exhaustion after prolonged disease states and with various metabolic disorders.
Application in folk medicine
Apparently, it is difficult to find any other medicinal plant, the use of which reliably dates back to the 7th century BC.Ancient Persian writings say that the ayr was used at that time. Not only in Persia, but also in China, and in India it was known as a magnificent gastric remedy long before our calendar. In Europe, PA was introduced to Europe. Mattiolus in about 1560.The court doctor of Emperor Ferdinand I received this plant from Constantinople. Since that time, ayr is appreciated in folk medicine as a remedy against violations in the digestive system as a whole. Moreover, tea from the rhizome of aira is used as a detergent against skin rashes and dandruff. The essential aiir oil, obtained by steam distillation, or the alcohol extract from the rhizomes of ara are also used as rubbing against rheumatic ailments.
