Anorexia is a syndrome that consists in lack of appetite and is accompanied by an acute need of the body in nutrition. With prolonged starvation, the brain centers that cause appetite do not receive the necessary nutrients and cease to function normally. That is why the appetite disappears.

Anorexia and its causes
The main causes of anorexia are: heredity;diseases associated with loss of appetite( gastritis, pancreatitis, dental diseases), genitourinary system or depression;oncological diseases;respiratory diseases;various infections that weaken the body;tobacco smoking and alcohol use( factors contributing to the exhaustion of the body);irregular meals and a monotonous diet. It can also be caused by the abuse of potent drugs that affect the central nervous system.
Nervous
Mostcommon is the so-called nervous anorexia, which is most often manifested in young women. It is accompanied by fear of gaining excess weight and losing the external appeal, as a result of which the girl deliberately refuses to eat.
Most people with anorexia are unaware of a body weight deficit. The fear of gaining excess weight increases in proportion to the mass that the body loses. Any increase in weight can be perceived as a failure, which, in turn, is the cause of depression and an excuse for tightening control over eating. In especially severe cases, a person can lose more than 30% of his normal body weight.
For anorexia nervosa the following types of behavior are characteristic:
- strong-willed( using various methods of fasting, strict observance of diets);
- cleansing( artificial challenge of gag reflexes, the use of laxatives, the installation of enemas - all after the attacks of uncontrolled overeating).
Mental
In case of anorexia, the possibility of a lethal outcome as a result of exhaustion of the organism is not excluded. The cause of death may be suicide, which once again points to mental disorders. A person is so depressed that between death and weight gain he chooses the first.
