With the arrival of colds, woolen things are probably the most beloved in the wardrobe of all our compatriots. Indeed, a good woolen thing is thin, light, and at the same time very warm. Competition with them can be only fleece things, but because of a specific visual appearance, fleece is used for sewing a sports line, which is not suitable for everyone.
In this article we will tell you how to take care of woolen things so that when they wear they do not cause discomfort and tingling( a natural characteristic of wool, even merino).
What can I do to prevent wool from getting stuck?
You bought a thing from 100% wool, and everything would be fine, if not for this unpleasant tingling. Did you sell a substandard thing? Not at all, because the natural characteristic of the wool is a slight tingling sensation that is felt by the human skin, especially the nursery. This is because the wool resembles the hair of a man who was visited and formed a "fluff", it is these fluffy tips that irritate.
Scientists have proved that if both parents are not allergic, then things from natural wool can be easily acquired and the child from the first days. But how if she annoys even adults? For this, there are several secrets of washing.
Option number 1
For the washing of woolen clothes, purchase a product marked "for washing woolen things" or "for wool."Gels and powders are sold, but as practice shows, gels work better and soften the wool, without damaging its structure. In addition, many housewives complain that with delicate washing on woolen things from the powder remain a divorce.
The most popular and proven means for washing wool are Laske Wool and Lenor. But other specialized tools are not strikingly different. Pay attention to the smell, because wool ideally absorbs odors, and they will not fade when dried as cotton or synthetics.
Before washing, be sure to check the tags, and even if you have a newer machine, but the woolen article indicates "only hand washing", do not take risks, besides, washing such things is not at all difficult:
- Pouring in a basin of water 37-40 ° C, dissolve the detergent;
- Lower the wool thing so that it is completely in solution;
- We leave for an hour, so that all the dirt has gone into the water itself;
- Pollution spots gently wipe after an hour and rinse with plenty of water;
- It is not recommended to squeeze the wool, it is best to throw it on the net, and after it drains off the water on easily absorbed fabric until it dries completely.
Also do not forget about the air conditioner, while suitable as specialized for woolen things, and conventional air conditioners. It is worth adding that the effect of the air conditioner is cumulative and after every use the thing is softer and softer.
Option number 2
Urgently need to wash a woolen thing, and there is no time to search for special equipment? What you have at home at home may well come in handy, but still these are one-off solutions and the next time you can make it easier for yourself by purchasing the necessary gel and conditioner.
So, proceed:
- Pour warm water and add a teaspoon of citric acid to the water basin, leave for 10 minutes;
- If necessary, add hot water, so that the water in the pelvis was warm, and the citric acid completely dissolved. We put the thing and leave it for 15 minutes;
- Now drain the water and the rinse in one water;
- Soap the thing with the usual shampoo, which is at home. Leave for 5-10 minutes;
- We rinse the shampoo on both sides with a thin layer of hair balm, yes, just like you wash your hair. Leave to work it for 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly;
- Throw the thing onto the mesh and then spread it out to dry on the fabric in a horizontal position.
Option number 3
It is not a separate, but rather ancillary. Get up, if you do not have a steamer at home, or a steam cleaner, or an iron with a good steam function. In general, any technique that produces a good jet of steam. After the thing has completely dried - steam it, but remember, it is strictly forbidden to touch the iron or hot surface to the wool.
And another option of steaming, if the thing "did not give up" before - dissolve a pinch of citric acid per liter of water and soak the cloth. Put the fabric on a woolen product and steamed with such a solution. After such a thing will surely become soft and "obedient".
Option No. 4
The folk method that our great-grandmothers used. Mustard powder 1.5-2 spoonful on the basin of water pour hot water and allow to dissolve. Bring to a warm state and omit the thing. Wait a few hours and rinse.
It was believed that mustard and dirt absorbed into themselves, and the smell would remove and softer the wool would do. But we would recommend using mustard instead of air conditioning, because with a persistent smell of sweat, it can not cope, and we live in an age when this smell is unacceptable in everyday life, but is the most common reason for washing woolen things.
How to make a woolen sweater, a jacket, a dress soft, not prickly?
Another option is well suited to clothing. This will require vinegar and ordinary salt without additives. So: for 5 liters of warm water we fill 5 tablespoons of salt and completely dissolve. Add 5 spoonfuls of vinegar or citric acid solution( teaspoon per liter of water) and lower the thing after washing in a usual powder. Leave for 2-3 hours and then with a liniment.
If it is not summer at the moment and the thing will not dry on a well-ventilated place, the smell of vinegar will remain in the thing until the next wash.
In this case there is another way:
- 1 liter of water;
- 1 teaspoon of glycerin.
Soak for no more than 30 minutes, rinse thoroughly.
Glycerin is sold in a pharmacy without a prescription, but if it is not available from the time of our grandmother's reserves, it's easier to buy special equipment.
Than to wash, soften a wool that it was not pricked?
This method is ideal for washing wool blankets and blankets. It sometimes happens that they are heard through tight home clothes. But in principle, given the composition, the product can also be tried for clothes.
So, take:

- 3 teaspoons of soda;
- 5 drops of ammonia.
Leave in solution for at least an hour, or it can be overnight. We rinse in 3-5 waters.
