What is chaga

Chaga is a species of wood tinder, which grows on trees such as mountain ash, aspen, alder, however, birch black fungus is known for its medicinal properties. Chaga appears from the spores, which penetrate into damaged areas of wood, affect it and grow to large sizes - the weight of such a fungus can reach 3 kilograms.

Sprouted on the body of the tree, they feed on those useful substances that are contained in the birch tree. That is why the fungus, saturated with microelements and active ingredients, has a beneficial effect on the human body.

There are 2 varieties of wood chaga: birch and larch. The first grows in all forests where birches grow: in Russia, North Carolina, in the north of the USA and Korea. The second one is found in the northeast of Russia, in the Far Eastern and Siberian forests. Chaga, growing in different habitats, can differ in color and shape.

The birch mushroom is similar to a large rough outgrowth of black color. The body of the fungus is covered with many cracks, yellow veins can appear from below.

The larch larch takes root on the fir, the Siberian cedar and looks like a hoof. The fungus has a rough surface and numerous cracks on the body.

    Procurement and storage of

The greatest accumulation of nutrients in birch chaga is observed in spring and autumn. Therefore, the preparation of this raw material is best done 2 times a year. It is recommended to choose the mushroom carefully and bypass the fallen and rotten trees: the chaga on them has already lost its useful properties. Care must be taken and to the fungus itself: it is important that it is dense and not crumbled, and the pulp in the middle should not be black.

The fungus is very dense, so it must be carefully cut with a large knife or ax. Chaga after a while can harden, so immediately you need to cut it into equal pieces( 5 centimeters) and dry it on a battery or in a dryer. Then dry the dried mushroom in a container with a tight lid. Chaga can be stored in this state for no more than 2 years.
