Italy is a country that can not be seen for one trip. Regions of Italy differ from each other strikingly, and there are so many interesting places that their eyes just flee. Therefore, Italy, like a good wine, is worth a hassle without hurrying, and not trying to see absolutely everything in one sitting. The best option is to choose one particular region for one trip, for example, Tuscany. Schedule the most interesting to visit the city. In Tuscany it can be Florence, Pisa, Siena. Of these, the largest and most interesting, of course, is Florence. If the trip is planned in the summer, be sure to select a few days for a holiday at sea. Let's say the most profitable flight that you have found is Moscow-Rome. The nearest city to Rome is Siena, then it is convenient to move to Florence and then to Pisa, where you can easily reach the coast, for example in Viareggio. The first part of the trip you will spend on excursions and attractions, stopping for a couple of days in each of the cities, and the second part of the trip you will take a beach holiday. Tip: even if you are traveling on a winter trip, it's worth spending the last few days on the coast or in a quiet city. Give the body the opportunity to relax from the impressions and running around on excursions. Otherwise, you risk returning home feel tired, and not a charge of vivacity after a long-awaited vacation. Organized bus tours are a very popular way among Russians for traveling in Italy. Such tours, as a rule, include a full set of travel services( flight, visa processing, accommodation, transfers between cities). Tour includes visits to 5-10 cities and a package of excursions( usually by default there are sightseeing tours in each of the host cities and visiting a couple of the most important sights on the route). The main plus of the bus tour: the opportunity for a relatively small amount of money to see the maximum of Italy's attractions. For those who do not speak foreign languages, and are afraid of independent travel, a great plus will be the availability of a permanent guide-interpreter throughout the trip. Minus can be considered almost daily travel between cities, sometimes for many hours. Particularly tired night travel. When booking a bus tour, please specify with the travel agent what are the options for accommodation on the itinerary - stop at hotels or overnight in a bus. Relative minus can be considered the need to adapt to the "collective".Usually the group consists of 30-50 people, and the leaders of the trip adhere to rigid organizational rules: you can not be late, there are strictly certain times for lunches and dinners, often you can not choose at your own discretion restaurant, hotel, and even more so to change the route. As Italy is almost completely surrounded by the sea, the choice of places for beach recreation here is simply limitless. And anywhere on the coast you will find at least a couple of large tourist cities, a visit which can be combined with a holiday at sea. Lido di Jesolo is a coast located in the Veneto region of the Northeast of Italy. The main advantage of Lido di Jesolo is excellent sandy beaches and very democratic prices. Rest on the beaches of Lido di Jesolo can be combined with a visit to Venice, Verona, Padua, the Dolomites and the famous mountain lakes of Italy: Como and Garda. If you are planning to visit several Schengen countries for one trip, the closest countries to the coast of Lido di Jesolo are Austria( 250 km) and Slovenia( 200 km).More information about the coast of Lido di Jesolo, as well as the sights of Venice, Padua and Verona can be found here. The Rimini coast in the Emilia-Romagna region is washed by the waves of the Adriatic Sea. Rimini is considered the best place in Italy for a family beach holiday, because in addition to the cleanest sandy beaches here is the largest number of recreational parks for children and aqua centers. The cities of Italy to the coast of Rimini are closest to Bologna, Modena, Ferrara. There are many attractions in Rimini. By ferry you can swim to Croatia( 200 km, Russians do not need a visa to Croatia).More information about the coast of Rimini and nearby cities can be found here. Apulia is the heel of the Italian boot, and here you will visit immediately on the two seas - the Ionian and the Adriatic. Apulia is very original and not too crowded with tourists. Rest here is more suitable for independent travelers, true lovers of immersion in the environment of local residents, not diluted by crowds of tourists. The main city of the coast - Bari - the place where the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker are stored. Relatively near Naples, Vesuvius and Pompeii( 200 km).You can swim by ferry to Greece( 170 km) or Montenegro( 250 km, Russians do not need a visa).More about the rest in Apulia, see here. Sicily is the largest island of the Mediterranean Sea, located in the south of Italy next to the toe of the "boot".The name of the island provokes a stable association with the local mafia, but since that time, when gangster quarrels were raging here, everything has changed radically. Sicily - a great place for a quiet and comfortable stay. The most bustling place in Sicily - Taormina, there are most entertainment venues here. For a quiet holiday, the Agrigento and Catania are proud. Most of the attractions you will find in Messina and Syracuse. When choosing a place for recreation, keep in mind that the northern coast of Sicily is rocky and stony, and the sandy beaches you will find in the south. On the coast of the Gulf of Naples and Amalfitania you will find perhaps the most beautiful coastal cities and landscapes. This is a place for a romantic getaway, quiet walks and long gatherings on the beach in the rays of sunset. The most significant city of the coast is Naples, slightly smaller( but also large) - Salerno. But cities worthy of your attention and admiration, in this area are much larger. The best option is to rent a car and drive along the entire coast, so as not to miss the beauty. Here are the famous Pompeii, who died many years ago of a terrible eruption and are a huge ancient city, untouched by time. More information about the coast of Naples and Amalfi can be found here. Lazio is an area in the center of Italy on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The southern coast of Lazio is called the Riviera di Ulysses. Rest here is considered elite, the coast has long been well-liked by the European aristocracy. The northern part of the coast of Lazio is much more democratic in terms of prices and the public. The main pearl of Lazio - Rome, from many seaside resorts to the capital of Italy can be reached in half an hour. Most tourists choose this beach for recreation precisely because of the opportunity to combine lazy beach life with a visit to the Eternal City. Read more about the sights of Rome here. Information on how to choose a region to live in Rome, how to travel around the city, where to eat and what to buy, see here. The landscapes of Tuscany are known to all. Each of us at least once saw a picture on which the endless hills here and there are stuck with candles of cypresses. This is the most popular story of all articles about Italy. In Tuscany, one of the best beach vacations in all of Italy: excellent sandy beaches, reasonable prices, good infrastructure. Enumerate the pros can be long. The main cities of the region - Florence, Siena, Pisa - are known all over the world. However, do not try to limit yourself only to Florence or Pisa, if you are in Tuscany. Here literally everyone, even the smallest, is saturated with its unique history, culture and beauty. The most famous Italians were born in Tuscany: Dante, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Botticelli, Boccaccio, Galileo, Petrarch and many others. Sardinia is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea opposite the central part of Italy. It is believed that the coast of Sardinia is the most beautiful and clean sea in Italy. The island is adored by divers of all stripes, as here is a very interesting bottom relief, and there are a lot of sunken ships. The coasts of Sardinia are rugged by rocky coves and tiny sandy beaches. As such, no resort towns in Sardinia, all hotels stand apart, and the local population is very small. Therefore, rest in Sardinia can be called the most tranquil and secluded of all Italian resorts. However, if desired, there is something to entertain the whole family: in Sardinia there is a water park and a botanical garden, ancient ruins and medieval buildings, hiking trails and caves of incredible beauty. Recently, the famous pink flamingos have chosen for themselves the coast of Italy as a place of permanent residence and breeding of chicks. They can be found in large numbers in Sardinia, in Apulia, recently small flamingo colonies appeared near Rimini and in Venice. Flamingos are rather shy birds, so watching them will only come from a distance. If you have good equipment with a buzzer, you can see them near, and you will hardly be physically able to approach birds. Milan is recognized as the capital of shopping in Italy. If the purpose of your trip is still a holiday, and shopping you plan as a pleasant addition, then you can choose any place, regardless of proximity to Milan. In any area of Italy you will find suitable options for making a purchase.
What should I consider during shopping in Italy?
- The season of sales here is twice a year: from January to March and from July to September. The biggest discounts are provided at the end of the season, but the choice with the last month will be severely limited, since everything is already bought out
- The best prices you will find in outletlets that are available in any resort. Outlet discounts are available year-round, and the choice of brands there is simply huge
- Some outlets reach huge sizes - these are entire shopping villages. Such outlets often provide additional services: delivery of the purchased goods to the hotel, transfer, stylist services, children's room and much more
- Another option to save on prices - go shopping in special stores in factories( patches). If directly the goods from the factory are sold only in bulk and only to large distributors, in the patch, you can buy the same in retail, and the goods of past collections - with a significant discount. Spats are not only in garment factories, but also shoe, fur coats, leather goods, etc.
- The largest number of customers in stores and shopping malls is on weekends, as the Italians themselves join the tourists
- On Mondaymany shops start their work from lunch. New lots of goods are most often brought on Thursday evening, before the weekend. Almost all Italian shops in the afternoon bury the siesta( approximately from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm)
- All Italian shops( except for very tiny private benches) are provided with Tax-Free checks, for which it is possible to return part of the
- goods price. The check is provided ifyou bought the goods for a certain amount( the amount of it can vary, it is better to check with the seller). How to return money on this check, you can learn from the video to this article.
Transport and cuisine in Italy
Public transportation in Italy
With the city public transport in Italy, in a nutshell, the situation is approximately the same: the larger the city, the better the transport network and the movement in space does not cause difficulties.
The smaller the city, the more modest its transport park, the intervals of traffic are larger, and the prices are higher. Small town-villages on the coast with the rest of the world sometimes connects a single bus, the schedule of which is set by the driver, depending on the mood and domestic matters.
Most of the developed bus service. In large cities there is a metro, in Venice - public water transport. Tickets for public transport are purchased at Tabacco booths, various types of travel cards are often offered for 1, 3, 5 days or more, which allow you to save on travel.
You must purchase the ticket purchased in the bus cabin, otherwise your travel will not be considered paid. In large cities, buses stop at all stops, and on routes between small towns, sometimes buses stop only on demand of passengers.
Usually buses operate from early morning to 2 am. In summer, during the influx of tourists in many cities and resorts work night buses. The fare is higher for them than for day flights, and you can use the ticket only at night.
In Italy there is no federal bus network. Each region solves this problem in its own way. Usually bus lines are served by a small local company within its region. Therefore, it is more convenient to make long-distance long distance trains on the train.
The national railway carrier of Italy is called TrenItalia and connects all the main cities of the country. There are high-speed and regular trains, the ticket price can vary depending on the class and time of day. There is the possibility of pre-booking and paying for tickets on the company's website( the site can be viewed here).Often there are different promotions and sales, there is a flexible system of discounts.
Italian cuisine
Italian cuisine is the most popular national cuisine. In any city in the world, you can easily order pizza, spaghetti bolognese, tiramisu and cappuccino. But Italian cuisine, of course, is much more diverse, and even these simple dishes, cooked by real Italians, are very different from what is served in our restaurants.
The kinds and methods of cooking traditional Italian dishes are great. Each region has its own culinary traditions, its own key dishes and secret recipes. But there are several rules common to the whole of Italy( especially for small towns or not too tourist places).
- In Italian street restaurants often adhere to a strict timetable. If the sign says that lunch is served from 12:00 to 14:00, then you will be happy at this time. Come after the designated time - offer light snacks, or ask to wait for dinner
- Cappuccino in Italy, it is customary to order only for breakfast. You will not be understood if at lunchtime you order a bun and coffee in the restaurant, and not a full meal. There have been cases when tourists were denied service if their order did not match the time of day
- As such, soup in Italy is absent. The first Italians eat pasta( ie pasta in different types), for second meat, vegetables and other more dense dishes. In the north of Italy, the pasta is replaced with a risotto( rice)
- Water in the restaurant is served free of charge, as a bonus to the basic order. Carbonated water is called "aqua frisanti", ordinary drinking - "aqua natural"
- In many restaurants you can find complex lunches( an analogue of our business lunch), when for a fixed small price you get a set of two or three dishes and a drink. Such a dinner in Italian is called the "tourist menu" or "del jorno menu"
- If the account has a separate line "coperto", it means that the tip is already included in the price and you can take all the change to a penny. If there is no such line, you can leave the amount at your discretion.
- Restaurants are the most expensive establishments in Italy. Taverns and osteria are more democratic establishments, but the quality of food in them sometimes leaves much to be desired.
- The best option is trattoria - small family restaurants, in which you will be offered quality home-made food at quite reasonable prices. The owners of the trattorias very carefully cherish their reputation, stale food and poorly prepared dishes in the trattorias - mauveton
- In addition to restaurants in Italy, various types of bars are popular, where you can also eat snacks. In the "paninoteka" there is always a large selection of
- boutique shops "Bars-Cafes" that basically offer pastries. In the "pastiche" will be for the most part sweet cakes and pastries. Service in the bar near the counter is always much cheaper than at the table
- Of course, certainly you should visit the pizzeria. First of all, you will not find such an assortment of pizza, as in Italy, anywhere else. Secondly, pizza is cooked in special wood-burning stoves, which gives it a completely unique taste. Thirdly, in all pizzerias you can order pizza for take-away, moreover, you can order as a whole, or as individual pieces of
Features of the Italian mentality
- Italians often express their emotions aloud, loudly and without embarrassment. This can be both admiration( especially in relation to the weaker sex), and condemnation( if something in your behavior seemed reprehensible to them).Foreigners such behavior often confuses
- Italians are very religious, conservative and devoted to the family. It is worth to show great sensitivity in communication, if the topic concerns religion, traditions or close interlocutor. In these matters, it's easy for an Italian to touch and his anger is terrible( see above).
- Italians are absolutely unable to observe discipline. Delay or minor violation of the law here is considered the norm, and people who require strict adherence to the rules are perceived as boring and condemned.
- There is no word "conscience" in Italian. From the Russian it is translated as "shame", "morality", "confusion", etc., but the word denoting the internal moral framework is not. Conclusions do it yourself))
- Absence of haste is also absolutely natural. Tourists sluggishness seems like a common laziness, but Italians really appreciate such a thing as "the art of living" - which means enjoying every moment without the hassle of
- Italians like to meet on clothes. The better you are dressed, the more dignity( but not arrogance!) In your behavior, the better you will manage. In general, Italians are obsessed with the image, appearance and prosperity of
- Italians are very respectful of people of the older generation. Grandparents are the main members of any family. On the street, an elderly person is supposed to show special respect( skipping ahead, giving a hand in transport, etc.).Disrespectful attitude towards elders, and even more rudeness towards the elderly is simply unacceptable here.
- The Italians-northerners and the Italians-Southerners are quite different from each other. In general, the rivalry between the North and the South is a long-standing painful topic of Italy. They are so different that, for example, films shot in the south are broadcasted in the north with subtitles of
- . The inhabitants of the north of Italy are very similar in mentality to other Europeans( French or Swiss), but the farther south, the more temperament, patriarchy and simplicity, sometimes reaching ignorance
- There are quite a lot of criminal elements in big cities: car theft, baggage thefts and even robberies are not uncommon. It is necessary to take care of the safety of the rented car in advance, the bags should be worn so that they are difficult to wrest from their hands, and too expensive jewelry is better left for "walking" in other countries
